Eating a healthy diet that contains iron-rich foods may help you prevent iron deficiency, or help treat a mild case of it. But diet alone isn't enough to treat a serious iron deficiency. Doctors typically recommend taking a safe iron supplement—such as Vitron-C®—for iron deficiency, to help the body build back up its iron reserves.
Iron deficiency can't be treated overnight. You may need to take iron supplements for several months or longer to get your iron level back up to what it should be.
Eating plenty of foods that contain iron and vitamin C is especially important for people who have higher iron requirements, such as women and children.
